Flying in to Glasgow airport and then hiring a car and driving to the city is such a fantastic experience. Glasgow is such a friendly city that it makes being there a pleasure. I spent about a year there, as a student and found it a fantastic place to be, both as a great place to study, but also as a great place to be a tourist.
Being English, I was concerned about how friendly the Scots would be, as traditionally we have a rivalry, but I did not experience any hostility at all. All I found were extremely friendly people who were more than happy to tell me about the city, where to visit, how to get to places and even differences in the dialect. It was a great time and I made some good friends while I was there. I think I completely changed the attitude of my friends and family about the city as well, as they thought that it was rough and dirty but there has been so much recent regeneration that it is nothing of the sort. The city is vibrant and buzzing and most people have the positive attitude that you would expect to go with a place that has plenty going on, museums and art galleries, theatres and music halls, clubs and pubs, bars and restaurants and of course shops. It is certainly a place which I would love to go back to and would recommend to anyone that is interested in having a city break.

Glasgow airport is owned and run by the FAA – the same people who run Heathrow. So its no surprise to see that Glasgow is a modern and well run airport that offers its visitors all the major facilities needed to make a trip run more smoothly.
If you fancy a quick bite to eat there is the much loved Greggs cafe, which offers freshly baked pastries for those on the go. On the other end of the scale is Bargo, where you can sit down and enjoy and great healthy meal (they do great salads) and also choose from a large selection of fine wines.
There is also a special Skylounge – where you can relax in peace and quiet whilst you wait for your departure. They also offer complimentary Internet, snacks and drinks! If you book online you can secure yourself a super savings discount.
For more specific information on restaurants and other important facilities, check out the airports website. You can even find great deals and discount coupons on shopping!
If you are arriving into Gatwick and want to collect your car rental you will find most major top brand companies located on the ground floor of the terminal building. It is always recommend to book your car rental in advance as there is sometimes problems with availability when arriving at this airport. Have a nice stay!

If you are visiting Scotland and landing at Glasgow airport then why not get a hire car and travel out of the city to the seaside for a day. Ayr is not far away from the city but it is very different, a relaxing place with lovely air. If you like listening to the sea, walking along the beach or just generally relaxing then this seaside town is for you. It is quite a big town so if the weather is good you will find that it gets busy. But that does mean that it has plenty of good facilities including shops, restaurants and cafes. It is quite an old fashioned town and you will find that there are quite a lot of older people there but equally there will be families with their children playing on the beach. If you want to experience what it is like at the British seaside but do not want to travel down to England to see Blackpool, Brighton or another of those famous places then you will get the same sort of experience from Ayr.
There is the same mad people swimming in the cold sea, sandcastles with flags on, drinking tea in cafes watching the rain and tacky little gift shops selling things no one really wants but feel compelled to buy! You will just find that it is full of Scottish rather than English people and as they tend to be friendlier then you should have a fantastic time.
